The Gmail team works hard behind the scenes to keep spam and fraudulent messages out of your inbox. But if a suspicious message ever does manage to sneak through, you can help Gmail filter them out for everyone in the future by clicking “Report phishing."

Google Calendar now supports internationalized email addresses
As announced for Gmail last month (http://goo.gl/XqLSlI), Google Calendar now lets you use email addresses that contain accented or non-Latin characters, such as 武@メール.グーグル, to invite friends, share calendars, or take any action where email addresses are used.

See who’s online more easily in Hangouts in Gmail
Starting today it's easier to see which of your chat buddies are currently online, thanks to a new tab in Hangouts in Gmail. In this new tab, friends who are online are shown first, followed by those who aren’t. Of course, you can still send your offline friends a message and they’ll get it the next time they check Hangouts on their computer, phone or tablet. Plus, you can also now pin your favorite contacts (you know, your mom, your BFFL, or your crush) to the top of your contact list.
Many of you have asked for these features, so we hope you enjoy this update, which will be rolling out over the next few days. If you’re not already using Hangouts in Gmail, simply click on “Try the new Hangouts” under your chat settings to upgrade today.

A first step toward more global email
Starting now, Gmail will recognize addresses that contain accented or non-Latin characters (e.g. 武@メール.グーグル). This means Gmail users can send emails to, and receive emails from, people who have these characters in their email addresses. Learn more: http://goo.gl/XqLSlI

Last week, we announced support for non-Latin characters in Gmail, such as δοκιμή.com and 测试@example.net,
as a first step towards more global email. However, ဝ, ૦, and ο can
look nearly identical to the letter o (see note below), and by mixing
and matching them, spammers can trick you into clicking “ShဝppingSite”
instead of “ShoppingSite” or “MyBɑnk” instead of “MyBank”. To stay one
step ahead of spammers, Gmail has taken precautions against these
suspicious combinations. Learn more: http://goo.gl/kMrptG
Note: For those playing at home, that's a Myanmar letter Wa (U+101D), a Gujarati digit zero (U+AE6), and a Greek small letter omicron (U+03BF), followed by the ASCII letter 'o'

Unsubscribing simplified
Email is a handy way to get updates from your favorite brands, social networks, discussion boards and more. But sometimes you end up subscribed to lists that are no longer relevant to you, and combing through an entire message looking for a way to unsubscribe is no fun.
Now when a sender includes an “Unsubscribe” link in a Promotions, Social or Forums message, Gmail will surface it to the top, right next to the sender address. If you’re interested in the message’s content, it won’t get in the way, and if not, it’ll make it easier to keep your inbox clutter-free.
Making the unsubscribe option easy to find is a win for everyone. For email senders, their mail is less likely to be marked as spam and for you, you can now say goodbye to sifting through an entire message for that one pesky link.
